The Telangana Government has signed a MoU with Tech Mahindra to launch India’s first Blockchain District in the state. The MoU has been signed at the International Blockchain Congress 2018, which is being held in Hyderabad. The Telangana State Information Technology, Electronics and Communication department (ITE&C) has signed the MoU in behalf of the government which will provide regulatory and policy support to promote the Blockchain growth in both India and globally.

The Blockchain district will act as a Centre of Excellence, Incubator and Process Development for the emerging technology and will provide facilities and infrastructure to support the growth of Indian blockchain startups.

Tech Mahindra will be the founding member and will provide the necessary platforms and technological assistance to all the incubators. It will also help in to empower accelerators to develop and solve market problems across its global customer ecosystem.

Tech Mahindra CEO and MD, CP Gurnani has termed the development as historic and added, it would help in creating global talent hub which will unlock value in blockchain technology in democratising data and solving big problems.

He said: “It is also a huge step in reskilling and right skilling the workforce of the future. Blockchain experts will be our crowning jewels as together we work towards making India the blockchain capital of the world,”

“It will provide an opportunity for the blockchain ecosystem in India to collaborate and work towards building a blockchain district in Telangana and transforming India as the blockchain capital of the world.”

Tech Mahindra has scaled up its investment in the blockchain technology in last one year and has set up a blockchain centre at its Hyderabad campus. Earlier this year, it has also inked a MoU with Canada on a planned strategic investment of $79 million in next five years to establish a centre of excellence (COE) in Canada for the development of next-gen technologies in the field of Blockchain and AI.
