Four-time Olympic Gold winner in tennis and one of the world’s most successful tennis player of all time, Serena Jameka Williams through one of her Instagram post revealed her investments in US cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase.
The investment has been made through her business venture, Serena Ventures which she secretly founded in 2014. Serena Ventures has made investments in over 30 companies including fitness, clothing, food and women’s health. The total market cap of the portfolio is valued at almost $12 billion.
Williams said in the post:
“In 2014, (yes I know I can keep a secret) I launched Serena Ventures with the mission of giving opportunities to founders across an array of industries. Serena Ventures invests in companies that embrace diverse leadership, individual empowerment, creativity and opportunity.”
She has not revealed the amount of investment made in the cryptocurrency exchange or in which funding round she has participated. According to CrunchBase, the exchange till now has seen investments totalling $546.6 million in different rounds since 2012 and most recently, it has raised $300 million in Series E funding in October 2018, valuing the firm at $8 billion.
Serena Williams is one of top paid female athlete globally with earnings totalling $18 million in 2018 and a total net worth of $180 million. She has also her own line fashion, clothing and accessories chain.
