After being rebuffed by cryptocurrency exchanges, Ripple has made the brave move of venturing into mainstream media.
Reports have emerged that Ripple will be donating around $4 million dollars at the Ellen Degeneres show to contribute to DeGeneres’ Wildlife Fund. Interestingly, Ripple’s movement also include American actor Ashton Kutcher and Degeneres herself.
During the filming of the show, Kutcher who is also a fan of cryptocurrency, and is the co-founder of A-Grade Investments, an investor at crypto exchange BitPay said, “We wanted to show you that people are thinking about you [Ellen], so, on behalf of Ripple, we’d like to give you $4 million.”
He added, “Now, usually people come out with a big giant check and do the ‘big giant cheque thing’, but we can transfer it into Rwandan Francs right now right here, and all you need to do is push this button.”
Seconding the sentiment, Ellen in her own words, thanked the Ripple team by saying she has a great love for the cryptocurrency and is encouraging others to join in.
In March, Ripple had pledged to donate $29 million for the betterment of public schools. The company had said, “We’re thrilled to announce that Ripple and its executive team are giving back to America’s teachers with a $29 million dollar donation in XRP to DonorsChoose.org. Through DonorsChoose.org, teachers can easily create classroom project requests that support their students’ needs, and donors are able to give to the projects that inspire them.”
The statement had added, “Our donation fulfilled every request listed on the nonprofit’s website yesterday. Today, nearly 30,000 public school teachers in every state and approximately one million students are receiving books, school supplies, technology, field trips, and other resources vital for learning through DonorsChoose.org.”
