The biggest sign, that a marginalized section of the finance is moving towards mainstream adoption, is when shows, newspapers, shopping portals, mention cryptocurrencies.
Recently Netflix started airing a show called “How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast),” and towards the end of the second episode of season 1, there is a line (presumably by the drug dealer) saying, “Yes. We accept payments in bitcoin, Ripple, IOTA and Ethereum.”
While, this is exciting, what was more surprising, is that IOTA fans were more excited, compared to the other three cryptocurrency fanbase. A user named maxx3007 said, “Not sure if that is the association we want, but I take it.” Another user stated, “I know it’s horrible isn’t it. Right next to ripple.”
An early IOTA adopter said, “I’m literally watching this series now and as an early investor in Iota and hearing it be mentioned in this series, with all my excitement, I paused it and came here. Signs.”
Not for the first time, has there been a movie/TV show series talking about cryptocurrencies. In July last year, Crypto-News India had reported that a thriller movie titled Crypto, helmed by several Hollywood A listers, will soon hit the screens in 2019. At the time, the director of the movie had said, “I am overjoyed to be working with such an incredible cast to bring this timely, thrilling story to life. Beau is incredibly talented, and seeing him bring this character to life opposite talent like Alexis, Kurt, Luke, Jeremie and Vincent has been a dream come true.”
The producer of the film Jordan Yale Levine had added, “Cryptocurrency has captured the attention and imagination of consumers and entrepreneurs all over the world but has never been explored in film in such a nuanced and exciting way.”
In March last year, John Oliver had discussed Cryptocurrencies in detail in the main segment of his HBO show, ‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’. He tried explaining Bitcoin, Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies to general audience. He starts the explanation with “Everything you don’t understand about money combined with everything you don’t understand about computers.”
