The founder of Tron blockchain, Justin Sun, apologized to the general public through his social media platform for over-hyping his lunch with Warren Buffett. News portal, Coindesk quoted Sun as saying, “My intention of having the lunch with Buffett was because of my admiration for him and my enthusiasm for charity. It was simple, but also with self-interest to promote the blockchain industry and my project. But my immature, naive, and impulsive conducts with my big mouth have turned it into an out-of-control and failed over-marketing hype and led to a significant series of unexpected consequences.”
He wrote on Weibo (which is the Chinese equivalent of Twitter) that he “sincerely apologizes to the public, media, officials and regulatory authorities” for his over-marketing actions.
For the uninitiated, Sun was all set to have lunch with Buffett in order to convince the latter’s mind about cryptocurrency. However, recently, he had to call it off, owing to ill health. Tron Foundation had recently tweeted, “TRON Foundation announces postponement of Warren Buffett lunch, press conferences after founder Justin Sun falls ill with kidney stones. Parties agreed to reschedule at a later date.”
The lunch idea came about in June this year when the pioneer of value investing who termed Bitcoin “delusion”, “useless” and even “rat poison squared” Buffett was going to sit down with a maverick of very same cryptocurrency space because he had been paid handsomely to do so!
Sun further stated in his letter, “During the whole process, I went from being excited, to worried, agonized and then terrified and regretful. … It led to a negative influence on the public and also drew concerns from regulators who care about me. Again I want to say: I am sorry.”
Interestingly however, he did not specify which regulators he was referring to, in his letter.
