Ethereum core developer Afri Schoedon, took to Twitter to announce that he would be going off all social media handles. In a cryptic message he said, “Until further notice, you can reach me via [email protected], on Telegram using changing handles, and on Parity’s Riot/Github. I will no longer respond on Gitter, Skype, Discord, Slack, Wire, Twitter, and Reddit.”

He added, “If you want to contribute to the Görli testnet, please reach out to @ChainSafeth and @ETHBerlin. If you want to work on the roadmap and hardfork coordination, reach out to the @EthCatHerders. If you have general technical questions, please raise them on @StackEthereum.”

The sudden exile was sparked by Schoeden comparing Ethereum against an upcoming project called Polkadot. The developer, among other things, shilled the latter while FUDing about the former. He said, “From a legacy chain client developer perspective, this will be a hell of a task to maintain the $ETH 1.x chain for another 2 or 3 years. From a d-app or contract developer perspective, projects like *#*Polkadot will be much more interesting because you can already use them in 2019.”

Taking the discussion on Reddit and other social media handles, a user said, “This, among other tweets and communication, is painting a narrative that intentionally misrepresents Polkadot and attempts to damage ETH. There are far more constructive ways that this discussion could be framed, and we should expect better from implementors that have received 5 million dollars to build ETH 2.0 just a few months ago.”

Another discussion saw people asking about the identity of Schoeden. A user responded saying, “An “ETH” lead developer who has been funded by ETH”, “But doing other things like Polkadot and undermining ETH.” To which the developer responded saying he was not working on Polkadot.

Andras Kristof, owner of Ether Cards and founder of Akomba said, “It occurred back to me that there is an obvious conflict of interest in your position, (even if rightfully) delaying Ethereum, but working for polkadot. In the light of that, this tweet boasting polkadot’s progress and critisizing ethereum’s speed seems particularly unfortunate.”

This is not the first time, a developer has been forced to take a hiatus from social media, after incessant trolling. Tempers occasionally run high, which results in people deleting their social media accounts.
