It looks like Elon Musk has got some serious interest in cryptocurrencies, which is not limited to occasional praise alone. After revealing his favorite crypto a short while ago and making multiple remarks in the favor of Bitcoin now he has tweeted about Ethereum, though the intent of his tweet was not immediately clear. Why was the intent not clear, you may be wondering! Well, take a look on the tweet itself to figure out:

As you can see, there’s no sense in this tweet about Ethereum made by Musk. After that tweet Elon also tweeted “jk”, which perhaps was to save his account from being blocked again by Twitter, just as it had been blocked some time ago after his tweet regarding Bitcoin.

Musk’s tweet elicited a response-cum-invitation from Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who invited Musk to the Devcon 2019 conference set to be held in October. But Elon, who has by now become world-famous for his Twitter comedy, advised Buterin to “stop giving away free ETH!”

Perhaps Musk might have been testing what impact he can have on the price of Ethereum with a single-word tweet. Or perhaps he may be doing something else – we don’t know, and we may also never come to know about it. But one thing is clear – tech czars are very interested in this new world of cryptocurrencies, whether SEC likes it or not. Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey, and Elon Musk are some of the major voices from tech space who have shown positive interest in crypto.

If you’re a follower of Elon Musk, you may know already that he recently had a spat with the Securities and Exchange Commission of United States over the issue of taking Tesla private. The SEC had claimed that by tweeting about his plans Musk violated an important agreement which prevents directors for relaying information already conveyed to the investors. Musk just received a list of topics from SEC in that matter, which enlists all the topics about which he can’t tweet without taking a regulatory approval first. Fortunately, that list doesn’t include any crypto-related terms. If we look in this context, Musk’s tweet about Ethereum may also be a subtle dig on SEC officials who have been in his pursuit instead of worrying about ETH scammers impersonating him and others on Twitter.

It also looks like his tweet had at least some impact on the price of Ethereum. The price of ETH started surging after the news of his tweet broke out, and by the end of day it had surged as much as 3.22% to touch $160 mark. It’s still trading above $159.

Update: Musk and Buterin also had some more discussion after this banter later yesterday. Several hours later Musk also asked Buterin that what should be developed on Ethereum, to which Buterin responded with 5 of his top picks. You can see those tweets below:

So, is Elon Musk thinking about developing something on Ethereum? Only time can answer that question.

Technology and business were my core interests, so it wasn't surprising that I got interested in cryptocurrencies, which operate at the intersection of both these things.
