China’s Center for Information and Industry Development (CCID), which comes under the country’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, released its revised crypto project ranking last week. This is the center’s seventh update and the number of crypto projects evaluated remains at 33, unchanged from the previous ranking. EOS & Ethereum continue to occupy top two positions in overall ranking and have remained in same spot for last 5 months. In this month’s report, the center upgraded Bitcoin core (BTC) to 13th place from 19th place in previous month’s ranking report. Bitcoin cash (BCH) which endured a heated discussion over its recent hard fork so far this month has dropped one rank and landed in 29th place this month. Decred sank to the bottom of the list with NEM trailing close by while last month’s report saw NEM in the bottom most position.
The 33 crypto projects which make up the report were ranked based on their basic technology, applicability and creativity and overall usage in day-today applications. While EOS claims number one spot in basic technology category, Ethereum ranks first in applicability category and Bitcoin core (BTC) ranks number one position in creativity category. The CCID explained that its evaluation model is continuously optimized based on the recommendations of the project’s working group and expert consultants. The rankings are organized and implemented by the CCID Blockchain Research Institute and a number of organizations such as the CCID Think Tank, under China Electronics and Information Industry Development Institute, and China Software Testing Center.
According to the center, the current evaluation model emphasizes three main principles which are
- The indicators should be adapted to all evaluated objects, not just some.
- The proposed indicators should be related to technological innovation in public chains.
- The measurement or evaluation of the indicators can be implemented.
Speaking about their future projects, the center detailed “CCID Blockchain Research Institute will also launch an in-depth evaluation report and application development report for public chains … We will also launch an advisory service and report on public chain technology assessment”.
