For achieving wider acceptance of Bitcoin and consensus on its regulation, France finance minister Bruno Le Maire is pushing up for a proposal to include discussion on Bitcoin regulations in the next G-20 summit in 2018.
In an interview with a French news channel, the minister said that he will ask Argentina, which will host the next summit to put the bitcoin on the agenda during the upcoming gathering in April.
He further said, “There is evidently a risk of speculation. We need to consider and examine this and see how (…) with all the other G20 members we can regulate bitcoin.”
The proposal from French minister is not a surprise as France has maintained a proactive stance around the tech.
The discussion with the representatives of G-20 member nation will surely give impetus towards regulating the virtual currencies. The group has discussed the topic previously through the Financial Stability Board (FSB) and has been studying the tech since 2016. A joint effort could lead to the direction on regulating the currency and give rest to the noise around it.
