Canada based luxury fine jewellery brand Birks Group that has been operating since 1879 is pleased to announce that they will now accept bitcoin at seven selective stores across Canada. Birks Group partnered with BitPay to offer its customers new payment options which launched late November 2018, allowing for faster, easier and more secured purchases. Birks Group is the first luxury retailer in Canada to accept bitcoin. Birks Group has been providing jewellery services in the Canadian region for more than 100 years with its 28 Maison Birks and Brinkhaus stores. This partnership facilitates purchase of silverware, timepieces and fine jewellery using bitcoin cash (BCH) and bitcoin core (BTC) and eight locations where customers can find the partnership active are at Vancouver West Hastings, Brinkhaus Calgary, Fairview Mall, Bloor, Yorkdale, Montreal and Calgary. The company explained during the announcement on Tuesday that “Birks Group is the first luxury retailer in Canada to accept bitcoin”.
It was also announced that recently opened Graff & Patek Philippe store in Vancouver also uses Bitpay’s point of sale payment solution which makes a total of 8 stores across Canada that use Bitpay’s services. Founded in 2011, BitPay is the pioneer and the most experienced company in bitcoin and blockchain payments. BitPay provides brick and mortar merchants like Birks Group with a full array of options for accepting blockchain payments, from direct point-of-sale integrations to web and mobile-based apps. In a statement made by the company, it stated that “retail store customers in select locations can purchase well-known jewellery brands — such as Breitling, Rolex, Bulgari, and Cartier — with digital currencies”. The Canadian company is not the only jeweller in the world accepting cryptocurrencies for payments as many other businesses interested in accepting payments via cryptocurrencies ranging from jewellery to exotic cars and real estate have implemented BitPay’s solutions as it allows for large transactions in form of crypto currencies which are risk free with no currency threat. A few other popular brands that accept crypto payments via BitPay include U.S. jewellery retailer Marks Jewellers and Samer Halimeh NY, a luxury diamond retailer headquartered in Knightsbridge with branches all over the world.
