So here comes another use case for Bitcoin Cash – now it can be used to pay for dish connections in several parts of the world as DISH Network Corporation, one of the largest providers of satellite TV services in the world, has started accepting BCH tokens for payments. The news was announced on company’s website, and it’s the 2nd crypto payment option added by the company. First is BItcoin itself, which DISH corporation started accepting way back in 2014.
The addition of BCH by the company has come at a time when company is also in the process of migrating to BitPay as its new payments processor for crypto transactions. Company’s executive vice president John Swieringa said that the decision is aimed at serving those customers who have adopted a new way of doing business. He said:
“We’ve added Bitcoin Cash just as we chose to accept Bitcoin to serve customers who have adopted a new way of doing business. We have a steady volume of customers paying with cryptocurrency each month, and BitPay will allow us to continue offering more choice and convenience to our customers.”
Based on this statement it seems that other crypto payment options may also be added by the company in near future. BitPay is a major name in crypto payment processing with offices in Europe, North America and South America. It’s also established in cross-border settlement of payments, which explains why DISH Network might’ve chosen it as its payment processor.
DISH customers who want to pay using Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash will be required to make a one time payment from the website of DISH network or their hopper DVR. Once they’ve sent the exact amount in BCH or BTC it will be converted instantly to US dollars by Bitpay and sent to DISH network’s account for avoiding the problem of volatility associated with cryptocurrencies. Sonny Singh, Chief Commercial Offier of BitPay, said about their partnership with DISH Network;
“Our goal for DISH Network is a seamless transition to BitPay so all customers who are currently paying for services with Bitcoin continue to have the option to pay with Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash. Cryptocurrency is an increasingly popular way for consumers to make purchases online as it reduces credit card fraud and is cheaper for the merchants.”
DISH Network provides satellite TV services to 13.7 million TV subscribers across several different countries in the world through many of its subsidiaries. Its addition of Bitcoin Cash can therefore certainly help in increasing adoption of BCH among crypto users worldwide.
NOTE: India’s DishTV service is not a subsidiary of DISH Network Corporation.
